Written by Miley Cyrus, Antonina Armato, and Tim James and released on June 17, 2008, as the lead single from her second studio album Breakout, "7 Things" became a top ten hit in Australia, Japan, Norway, and the United States. The music video, directed by Brett Ratner, features Cyrus performing with a backup band as teenage girls lip-sync along while clutching props inspired by personal items Cyrus' ex had given her.
