Bobbie Gentry

Bobbie Gentry grew up in Mississippi and began performing in the 1960s, writing and singing her own material at a time when few women did. Her song "Ode to Billie Joe" topped the charts in 1967, earning her Grammy awards and showcasing her atmospheric storytelling. Gentry released several albums before retiring from the music industry in the early 1980s.
