Desmond Dekker
Desmond Dekker began recording in Jamaica in the early 1960s, becoming one of reggae's first international stars. His 1969 hit "Israelites" reached the top ten in multiple countries, making it one of the first reggae songs to achieve worldwide success. Dekker's earlier track "007 (Shanty Town)" was a significant hit in the UK, helping introduce the rocksteady sound to British audiences during the mod era.
