Dick Dale & His Del-Tones
Dick Dale and His Del-Tones burst onto the California music scene in the early 1960s, creating the surf rock sound at packed shows at the Rendezvous Ballroom in Balboa. Their explosive version of "Misirlou," a traditional Eastern Mediterranean folk song, became Dale's signature instrumental, featuring his rapid alternate picking and heavy use of reverb. Dale worked with Fender to develop louder amplifiers capable of handling his intense playing style and volume requirements.
