East 17 emerged from Walthamstow, London in 1991 as a British boy band with a harder, more urban edge than their pop contemporaries. The group, featuring Tony Mortimer as primary songwriter, scored numerous UK hits throughout the mid-1990s including "House of Love" and "It's Alright." Their 1994 Christmas ballad "Stay Another Day" became their biggest success, reaching number one in the UK and selling over a million copies across Europe.
