Born Stanley Kirk Burrell in Oakland, California, the rapper released "U Can't Touch This" in 1990 as a single from Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em, which sold over 10 million copies in the US. The song, which samples Rick James's 1981 "Super Freak," won Grammy Awards for Best R&B Song and Best Rap Solo Performance.
