His 1959 album "Kind of Blue," featuring "So What," introduced modal jazz and became the best-selling jazz album of all time. Davis constantly evolved his sound, moving through bebop, cool jazz, hard bop, fusion, and beyond, recording dozens of influential albums until his death in 1991.
