The Meters
The Meters formed in New Orleans in 1965 as a funk and R&B group, becoming the house band at Cosimo Matassa's studio. The instrumental quartet, featuring Art Neville on keyboards, created a stripped-down funk sound that influenced New Orleans music for decades. Their groove-heavy tracks like "Cissy Strut" and "Look-Ka Py Py" showcased their signature syncopated rhythms and became widely sampled by hip-hop artists.
