The National
The National formed in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1999 before relocating to Brooklyn, New York. The band crafts brooding alternative rock characterized by Matt Berninger's deep baritone vocals and introspective lyrics paired with atmospheric guitar work. Their 2010 album High Violet marked a commercial breakthrough, building on the critical acclaim of 2007's Boxer and establishing them as one of the most respected indie rock acts of their generation.
