The Smithereens

The Smithereens formed in Carteret, New Jersey in 1980, crafting power pop heavily influenced by British Invasion bands and 1960s rock. Their 1986 album "Especially for You" and 1989's "11" brought them commercial success with jangly guitars and tight songwriting. The band's sound combined Beatles-inspired melodies with a harder-edged guitar approach that appealed to college rock audiences.
