Toni Basil had already established herself as a choreographer and performer in films and television before releasing her debut album "Word of Mouth" in 1981. Her single "Mickey," a reworked cover of the British song "Kitty" by Racey, became a worldwide hit and topped the charts in several countries. Despite the massive success of "Mickey," Basil continued to focus primarily on her choreography work throughout her career.
