Toots & The Maytals
Toots & The Maytals formed in Kingston, Jamaica in the early 1960s, led by vocalist Frederick "Toots" Hibbert. The group helped popularize reggae music internationally, with their 1968 single "Do the Reggay" credited as one of the first songs to use the term "reggae." Their energetic blend of ska, rocksteady, and reggae produced classics like "Pressure Drop" and "54-46 That's My Number," which drew from Toots' experience of wrongful imprisonment.
