Tower of Power formed in Oakland, California in 1968, developing a distinctive soul and funk sound built around their tight horn section. The band's precise brass arrangements and powerful rhythm section produced hits like "So Very Hard to Go" and "What Is Hip?" Their "Oakland stroke" rhythmic style and horn charts influenced countless soul, funk, and R&B recordings, with the band continuing to tour and record for over five decades.
