Written and produced by Reggie Lucas for Madonna's 1983 self-titled debut album, this pop and post-disco song was released as the fourth US single on February 15, 1984, becoming Madonna's first top-ten hit by reaching number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video, directed by Mary Lambert, depicts Madonna caught between a Hispanic boyfriend and a British photographer who offers her a modeling opportunity, and drew attention for its depiction of an interracial relationship.
