Released in July 1984 as George Michael’s debut solo single in the UK, where it spent three weeks at No. 1, it was credited to “Wham! featuring George Michael” in the US, where it topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in February 1985 and was named Billboard’s No. 1 song of the year.
