One of five songs Stevie Nicks wrote for Fleetwood Mac's 1979 double LP Tusk, "Sara" began as a set of lyrics without instrumentation that she demoed alone. In its earliest stages the song ran roughly 16 minutes and was edited down over the Tusk sessions.
