Written by guitarist Brian James, this track holds the distinction of being the first single ever released by a British punk band when Stiff Records issued it on 22 October 1976. The deadpan intro by Dave Vanian was taken from the Shangri-Las' 1964 song "Leader of the Pack", and the single appeared on the Damned's debut album Damned Damned Damned.
