Written by Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis and released as the fourth single from her Control album on October 17, 1986, this song about Jackson wanting to take control of her life won a Soul Train Music Award in 1988 for Best R&B/Soul or Rap Music Video. Built upon complex rhythmic tracks showcasing state-of-the-art production, it has been performed on nearly all of Jackson's tours except the Janet World Tour and was included in Pitchfork's Best 200 Songs of the '80s list at number 126.
