Co-written by Melvin and Mervin Steals (sometimes credited as "Mystro and Lyric"), "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love" was produced by Thom Bell and recorded at Philadelphia's Sigma Sound Studios with backing from house band MFSB. Released as the follow-up to "I'll Be Around," the 1972 song peaked at number 1 on the R&B chart and number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1973, selling over one million copies and reaching number 11 on the UK Singles Chart.
