Written and produced by Janet Jackson, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis, "Escapade" was released on January 8, 1990, as the third single from Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989), reaching number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. The accompanying music video takes place at an exotic carnival setting and features Jackson's choreography. The song won a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song and has been included on Jackson's greatest hits albums Design of a Decade: 1986–1996, Number Ones, and Icon: Number Ones.
