Hallelujah
Jeff Buckley's version of Hallelujah, originally written by Leonard Cohen for his 1984 album Various Positions, was recorded for Buckley's only studio album Grace in 1994. Though it received little commercial attention upon release, the recording gained massive posthumous recognition. Rufus Wainwright's cover was used in the animated film Shrek in 2001, which sparked renewed interest in the song. Cohen's composition has been covered over 300 times, but Buckley's intimate, aching interpretation is widely regarded as the definitive version.
