Hero
Written and produced by Mariah Carey and Walter Afanasieff for her third studio album Music Box, this ballad was released on October 18, 1993, and became Carey's eighth chart topper on the US Billboard Hot 100. Originally intended for Gloria Estefan to sing for the 1992 film soundtrack, Carey kept the song after being convinced by Sony executive Tommy Mottola and changed some lyrics to fit her personality. The song won two ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards, one ASCAP Pop Music Award, and one BMI Pop Award for the Songwriter Award.
