Lipstick Traces
The O'Jays covered this 1962 Benny Spellman hit in 1965. Written by Allen Toussaint under the pseudonym Naomi Neville, the original peaked at #28 R&B and #80 pop, with background vocals by Irma Thomas and Willie Harper. Toussaint wrote the song at Spellman's insistence after Spellman sang the bass part on "Mother-In-Law," allowing him to showcase his distinctive low voice.
