Written by LL Cool J and produced by Marley Marl, this February 1991 single was inspired by LL Cool J's grandmother, who told him to "knock out" his critics when many felt his career was waning. The song reached number 17 on the US Billboard Hot 100, was certified Platinum by the RIAA, and won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance.
