Memphis Soul Stew
Recorded at American Sound Studio in Memphis, this 1967 Atco Records single became a top 50 hit with its narrative describing Memphis Soul as a cooking recipe. King Curtis introduces each instrument—"fatback drums," "a pinch of organ," and "a half-pint of horns." A live version recorded at Fillmore West in 1971, shortly before Curtis' death, was released on his live album.
