Released on 7 December 1973, this Noddy Holder and Jim Lea composition became Slade's sixth and final UK number one, beating Wizzard's "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday" to claim the Christmas top spot. The single sold over half a million copies upon first release and was certified double platinum by the BPI in December 2021. As of December 2012, it had sold 1.32 million copies in the UK and was voted third in ITV's The Nation's Favourite Christmas Song.
