Midnight Train to Georgia
Written by Jim Weatherly and included on the 1973 LP Imagination, this song became Gladys Knight & the Pips' first single to top the Billboard Hot 100 after departing Motown for Buddah Records. It won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus and is sung from the perspective of someone accompanying their lover back to Georgia after failing to become a Hollywood star.
