Hayley Williams wrote this breakthrough hit about a past experience involving a male friend she felt was being exploited, later dating him and writing the track to "finally explain my side of the story." Released as Riot!'s lead single in April 2007, it peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was the band's highest-charting single until "Ain't It Fun" reached number 10 in 2014. The song was certified six times platinum in the United States in June 2022, the first of the band's songs to sell six million units.
