Mississippi Goddam
Written and performed by Nina Simone, this protest song emerged in a rush of fury after she realized what it was to be black in America in 1963. Released on her 1964 album Nina Simone in Concert, it was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry in 2019.
