Written by Billy Joel for his fourth studio album Turnstiles (1976), this song was never released as a single but has become one of his most covered works. An early version appeared on Live at the Great American Music Hall, 1975, recorded in San Francisco in June 1975 and released in 2021. Joel performed it at the Concert for New York City in October 2001 following the September 11 attacks, and again at 12-12-12: The Concert for Sandy Relief in December 2012.
