The Beatles - Penny Lane

Penny Lane

Written primarily by Paul McCartney and credited to Lennon-McCartney, this February 1967 double A-side single with "Strawberry Fields Forever" references Penny Lane, a street in Liverpool, and the sights McCartney recalled from his childhood. The song topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and featured session musician David Mason on piccolo trumpet, but became the first Beatles single since "Please Please Me" in 1963 to fail to reach number 1 on the UK Record Retailer chart.
