Composed by Gene MacLellan and first recorded by Anne Murray in 1970, this gospel pop song became a hit for Canadian band Ocean in 1971, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and remaining in the top 10 for seven weeks. The band received fan mail from religious figures including Billy Graham and the Bishop of Toronto, and the song was inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2006.
