Written and produced by Madonna with Shep Pettibone, "Rain" was released as a single on August 5, 1993, from her fifth studio album Erotica (1992), peaking at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 2 in Canada. Directed by Mark Romanek, the accompanying music video depicts Madonna performing before a Japanese film crew and won Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography at the MTV Video Music Awards.
