Released on 20 January 1986 as the first single from Public Image Ltd's fifth studio album Album, this song peaked at #11 on the UK Singles Chart. Written by John Lydon and Bill Laswell about apartheid in South Africa, specifically about Nelson Mandela, it also referred to alleged Royal Ulster Constabulary interrogation techniques. The phrase "anger is an energy" from the song became the title of Lydon's 2014 autobiography.
