Sailing

Originally written by Gavin Sutherland of the Sutherland Brothers, "Sailing" became Rod Stewart's signature ballad when he recorded it for his 1975 album Atlantic Crossing. The song topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and became closely associated with the BBC television series Sailor, a documentary about the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Ark Royal. The music video captures Stewart performing the song with sweeping, atmospheric visuals. Though it only reached No. 58 on the US Billboard Hot 100, the song became one of the best-known tracks in British pop history and a staple of Stewart's live performances for decades.
