Written by Beyonce, Thaddis Harrell, Christopher Stewart, and Terius Nash for the I Am... Sasha Fierce (2008) album, the song was released as the lead single from the album's "Sasha Fierce" disc on October 13, 2008. It topped the US Billboard Hot 100 and won three Grammy Awards at the 2010 ceremony, including Song of the Year. Jake Nava directed the music video, which features Beyonce and two backup dancers performing a jazz-influenced routine inspired by a 1969 performance by Bob Fosse's dancers and became one of the most imitated dance routines on YouTube.
