Written by David Bowie and recorded on February 4, 1972 at Trident Studios with the Spiders from Mars, this song was a late addition to The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust album after RCA requested a single. Following Bowie's performance on Top of the Pops, it reached #10 on the UK Singles Chart and made him a star, with the broadcast watched by many future musicians including Siouxsie Sioux, Bono, and Morrissey.
