Written by Maria Christensen, Michael Garvin, and Phil Temple, "Waiting for Tonight" was originally recorded by 3rd Party in 1997 before Jennifer Lopez recorded her own Hispanic house version for her debut album On the 6 (1999). Released on September 7, 1999, the single reached the top ten in multiple countries and became Lopez's first song to top the US Billboard Dance Club Play chart, earning her a Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards.
