Written by Marqueze Ethridge, Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes, and Organized Noize, "Waterfalls" was released in May 1995 as the third single from TLC's album CrazySexyCool, spending seven weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The music video, directed by F. Gary Gray with a million-dollar budget, won four MTV Video Music Awards in 1995, including Video of the Year, making TLC the first African-American act to receive that trophy.
