Whip It
Co-written by Gerald Casale and Mark Mothersbaugh from Devo's third album Freedom of Choice (1980), this new wave track peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 despite Warner Bros. Records not expecting it to be a hit due to its nonstandard tempo. The accompanying music video, which depicts Mothersbaugh whipping clothing from a woman on a dude ranch, became popular on the fledgling MTV channel.
