Released in April 1985 as the lead single from Be Yourself Tonight, "Would I Lie to You?" marked Eurythmics' shift from synthpop to rock and rhythm and blues, featuring a full backing band. The song reached number five on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Australian Kent Music Report for two weeks, becoming the duo's biggest hit in Australia. The music video was directed by Mary Lambert and featured actor Steven Bauer as the cheating boyfriend, with screenshots from the video used for the album's cover art.
