Jody Watley began her career as a dancer on Soul Train before joining the trio Shalamar in 1977, where she recorded hits like "The Second Time Around." After leaving Shalamar in 1983, she launched a successful solo career with her self-titled 1987 debut album, which featured "Looking for a New Love" and earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
