Lloyd Cole and the Commotions
Lloyd Cole and the Commotions formed in Glasgow in 1982, blending literate indie pop with jangly guitars and Cole's distinctively articulate vocals. The band released their debut album Rattlesnakes in 1984, followed by Easy Pieces (1985) and Mainstream (1987). Their sophisticated songwriting drew comparisons to classic American songwriters while maintaining a distinctly British sensibility, with singles such as "Perfect Skin" and "Lost Weekend" before the band dissolved in 1989.
