Released as a 12-inch single on 7 March 1983 through Factory Records, this Eurodisco and synth-pop track was written and produced by Gillian Gilbert, Peter Hook, Stephen Morris and Bernard Sumner. The best-selling 12-inch single in history spent 38 weeks in the UK top 75, peaking at number 9, while the 1988 remix reached number 3 in Britain and topped the US dance chart. Peter Saville designed the distinctive die-cut sleeve to resemble a floppy disk, with coloured code blocks replacing words.
