Written by Bennie Benjamin, Horace Ott, and Sol Marcus for Nina Simone's 1964 album Broadway-Blues-Ballads, "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was transformed into a blues rock hit by The Animals in 1965 on their album Animal Tracks. The song became a transatlantic hit and has since been covered by numerous artists including Santa Esmeralda in 1977 and Elvis Costello in 1986.
