My Prerogative

"My Prerogative" was written by Bobby Brown, Gene Griffin, and Teddy Riley for Brown's second studio album Don't Be Cruel and released in October 1988. Brown wrote the song as a response to criticism he received for his firing from New Edition, explaining it was about making decisions in one's life and not caring about other people's judgment. The song reached number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.
