Written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Strong, this song was first recorded by the Undisputed Truth in 1972 before the Temptations cut a 12-minute version for their All Directions album later that year. The Temptations' version became a number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, won three Grammy Awards in 1973, and was ranked number 169 on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.
