The Temptations
The Temptations formed in Detroit in 1961 and became one of Motown's most successful vocal groups, blending smooth harmonies with sophisticated choreography. The group experienced multiple lineup changes while producing hits like "My Girl" (1964) and "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone" (1972). Their sound evolved from doo-wop influenced soul to psychedelic soul and funk throughout the late 1960s and 1970s, working extensively with Motown producers Norman Whitfield and Smokey Robinson.
