Written by Aretha Franklin and Ted White, this 1968 single from the album Aretha Now reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Hot Rhythm & Blues Singles chart, becoming Franklin's sixth R&B number-one. The song was later re-recorded for the 1980 film The Blues Brothers soundtrack and again in 1989 for Through the Storm, and Pitchfork ranked it at number 15 on its list of "The 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s."
