Written by Tricky Stewart, Kuk Harrell, and The-Dream with Jay-Z, "Umbrella" was released March 29, 2007, as the lead single from Rihanna's third album Good Girl Gone Bad. The song topped charts in 19 countries, spent 10 consecutive weeks at number one in the UK, and seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100. The music video, directed by Chris Applebaum and featuring Rihanna's body covered in silver paint, won Video of the Year at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards.
